The Name in the Hat Game
(image courtesy some guy who put a picture of a hat on the Internet)
Everyone writes some names of famous people on slips of paper and throws them in a hat. One person draws out a name and tries to get someone else to guess it though description, impersonation, etc.
My high school friends have always called this The Name in the Hat Game but it is more widely known as Celebrities (a commercial version has been published as Time's Up). It almost always makes an appearance when we get together to play games - usually later in the day when everyone has had a couple of drinks. In recent years we've added a variant (which I believe is also used in Time's Up) where we play 3 rounds: in round 2 you can only use 3 words to describe the person, and in round 3 you can use only charades and noises (humming, special effects, etc.).
This game always inspires laughs and arguments about who is famous (I didn't know who Minnie Riperton was, but I was shocked - shocked! - to discover that several people, including my wife, didn't know who Mel Blanc was). The game ended in a tie between Spencer and myself for first, and a bunch of other people in other places.
Players:
Chris (me!)
Hilary
Spencer
Kaeli
Mark
Max
Aaron
Conscientious Objector:
Grey
Game Time: 90 minutes
