After coming home from Simon and Elliot's birthday, Hilary and I decided to try out Polarity. Since the somewhat puzzling previous play, I had downloaded some clearer rules from Board Game Geek, and thought I had a better idea of how the game was supposed to work.
Armed with these improved rules, I taught the game to Hilary and we played it. At the very least I now was pretty sure I was playing the game correctly, but it was still an odd experience. According to the rules, you score points for "towers" (i.e. multiple magnets stacked together with your color on top), but the only way these are formed is when your opponent makes a mistake. Near as I can tell, it is a game of territorial control - you are trying to place your pieces in such a way that your opponent will be forced to fault and concede a tower to you. I'm still not quite sure I "get it", but in the immortal words of Lo Pan "You were not put on this earth to 'get it', Mr. Burton."
Scores:
Chris - 25
Hilary - -1
Game time: 20 minutes
