Coloretto with Hilary and her Dad

We had brunch with Hilary's parents on Sunday. For my birthday, they contributed to an online game order I made, and one of the games I got was Coloretto, so after we ate I broke it out and taught it to Hilary and her dad (David).

In Coloretto, players compete to collect sets of cards of different colors. The more of a color you have, the more points it is worth, but only your three highest scoring colors score you positive points; any additional colors you have count as negative points.

Each turn, a player can either draw a card and add it to one of the stacks in the middle of the table (there are as many stacks as players), or he can take one of the stacks on the table. Players jockey to create stacks that will be good for them but bad for their opponents. The designer, Michael Schact, has expanded this concept into a couple of other games - Zooloretto and Aquaretto - that involve collecting sets of animals rather than sets of colors.

David grasped the game quickly and got out to a pretty big lead. I got a bit mired and ended up with 5 different colors of cards. However, on the last few turns I was able to acquire a couple of very good stacks and I managed to pull out a slim victory.

Scores:
Chris - 43
David - 41
Hilary - 40

Game time: 25 minutes
