Dominion + Dominion: Intrigue - Two great tastes...

After our two games of Dominion the previous night, Hilary and I decided to play with Dominion and its expansion, Dominion: Intrigue mixed together.

This game illustrated one of the traps that is pretty easy to fall into with Dominion. Each game features 10 different cards that players may buy. When a card comes out that you haven't played with before - as will happen frequently when adding a new expansion to the mix - the temptation to play with the new toys is very strong. However, often the correct strategy is to stick with the tried and true "big money" strategy, which means buying gold whenever possible.

This game featured a new card called the Harem, which with a cost of 6 cost as much as Gold. The Harem is worth 2 points, but it can also be used as 2 money. This seemed a better deal to me than Gold, which is just 3 money. However, as a result of buying Harems when I had a chance to buy Gold, I found myself 1 or 2 money short of being able to buy provinces (the 6-point victory cards with a cost of 8) several times, while Hilary, who stuck to her guns and bought Gold whenever possible, was able to pull out the win.

Scores:
Hilary - 33
Chris - 27

Game time: 30 minutes
